Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) | ศูนย์สร้างสรรค์งานออกแบบ

Update 2019: The TCDC moved a few years ago to a space inside the "grand postal building", the main post office. The resource center still exists, but the TCDC is now more of an event organiser than a museum. When I visited there was an interesting exhibition "Japanese Design Today 100", showcasing 100 influential Japanese designs in the fields of cooking, vehicles, electronics etc. That room, the shop and a rooftop garden with view of Bangkok are the only places accessible for the public nowadays; the  other sections are members-only.

2009: The TCDC in Emporium shopping mall is much more than a just museum, as it also organises lectures and workshops and has an extensive respource center (art-library) for members. The permanent exhibition is not very exciting, a mishmash of things from different periods and places. The temporary exhibitions on the other hand are usually worthwhile! Since its opening a few years ago I've seen an inspiring exhibition on the live of Thai people in the Isan (the North-East of Thailand), Viviene Westwood's designs, domestic culture in the Arab World and Perishable Beauty (about death and decay), to mention just a few. Exhibitions are often hands-on, so you're allowed to touch at least some of the displays. location * website
